Bike Skills and Safety

Biking Skills/Safety
Jess, Alesha and Ella taught us how to check our helmet on so it won’t wobble while we were riding our bikes. Firstly, place your helmet as a sad turtle, then if you have a high ponytail (this is only for girls if they have a ponytail) adjust it by lowering it down. Put the helmet on your head and loosen or tighten the strings. The best part for me was when we got to go on the bike track, I haven’t ridden a bike for a loooong time so I wasn’t so good but I was okay.

Bike Riding

Our bike riding teachers were Alesha and another lady and man but I have forgotten their name. I really enjoyed the bike riding lessons but I was really scared of bikes because at that time the last time I rode a bike was in year 2 or 3. I learned how to tell others I was gonna stop without using my mouth to talk. I have even gotten over my fear of going on the new bike track  with a bike. I still want to do the bike lessons because the lesson was fun.

Bike Skills Reflection

The worst things
The worst thing about bike skills is:
The bikes are too big
Their seats are not low enough
I forgot my bike

Most funnest things
The funnest things about bike skills:
I get to do more fun things
We get to play more games

What they taught us
The group that taught us the bike skills taught us how to check your bike and helmet. They also taught us the basics of riding the bike

What I feel like
After the bike skills, I think they taught us a lot. I had a lot of fun learning new things.

Bigfoot Bike Skills

This week on Monday and Tuesday were the days that Bigfoot people came to teach us how to keep safe and also told us some tricks.
In the first lesson they taught us how to put on a helmet correctly. I passed that one. Soon when everybody was finished we all went out and grabbed a bike. I like the idea of that they have bikes that we can use because we all sometimes forget.
Day two, they taught us more bike skills. It was pretty cool. The skills they taught me were actually pretty good. It was fun! I was in the high group so we got to learn a little bit of how to keep safe on the road. But sadly it was the end of the lessons, I wish I could learn more.

By Ryan Wang

The first bike lesson was learning how to ride a bike safely. Everybody was pumped and excited, but some people like me, Lucas, Andreas and so on, didn’t want to. Before we went on our bikes we had to learn how to wear helmets. Next we had to check if our bike was safe. The four things we needed to do was to check the wheels, the quick release, check the brakes and see if there is a reflector on the bike. The second thing we needed to do was to ride the bike but I had to practice a bit before I could ride with the others. On the second lesson we learned how to signal and look back properly. It was terrifying because when I looked back, I would be scared of bumping into someone. We also had to do a quiz about what we learned.

Day One

Today I learnt how to put my helmet on safely do you want to know how to do it, well you don't have a choice i'm telling you it. When you have your helmet you first have to check uncase your helmet has any cracks if you do stomp on your helmet break it and buy a new one. Step 2, loosen up your helmet then put it on your head and tighten it up and finally you clip it then your helmet is successfully checked.

Day One Activity Two

There are 5 special rules you have to check so your bike is ready. Number one, Your red reflector thing that is the law so you must have one on your bike. Your lever thing on your wheel has to be tight or else you lose your wheels they will just fall off. Number 3, Your seat needs to be up to your waist at all time because it is the safest thing to do

Day Two

Today we got to play games we played red light green light and slow, slow means slow, red means stop and green means go. After that we learnt our signals for our indicators and when you are going to stop. For our last and final game we play two rounds of a game when you need to not crash and touch the ground I won the second game by the way.

 Bike Ride

Day 1

On Monday, a few people from Bigfoot came into help us to be safe and learn how to ride the bike safety. They talked to us about our helmets and how to check them for size and cracks. Then we lined up to go outside,  we walked to get a bike and then we all went in a circle with our bikes. Next they told us to check our tire grips, brakes, quick release, and reflections. We started cycling, one of the Bigfoot members told me to ride and the quickly brake in front of her. Ring, ring the bell that had meant our day was over (but I still knew that we had another day).

Day 2

As soon as the bell went in the morning we were poting our helmets on and ready to go out for some more. My Group started By going on the bike track We played a game called Red light, Green light and Mustard , pretty much you stop on red, green, and go as slow as you can on MUSTARD. We learned how to use  gear and the signals of biking. then we played a game like we were riding on the road.

Epilogue

Now I feel like I can get out on my bike and do lots of things but best of all I can ride on busy roads with my dad.

Bikes and scooters
Room 7 enjoyed the bike track this week I loved riding my bike with my friends even though I didn't have a bike, I borrowed one (that is very rusty) from my friend. Previously we learnt bike signals I almost fell over when I put my hand out and immediately lost control of my bike, but soon I managed to keep control, steer with one hand (with the other hand signaling) and not bang into Ryan's tiny wheeled bike. still I was not 100% confident with my bike but I felt better than when I used to bang into the garage door or almost fall into a lake (this actually happened once  almost),the people from Bigfoot helped us a lot we learnt about the 4 checks for our bike 1.the quick release which I didn't have 😒, 2.the wheels (that I did have obviously),3.reflector and 4.the brakes ( mine were broken!!!)there were a lot of broken parts on my little rusty bike but I still had lots of fun!

Bicycle

Bicycle
Day 1
Darn...On the first day of the bicycle lesson I forgot my bike...BUT what's worse I was in the moon boot , And they still made me ride A BIKE.
However I still managed to survive the bike lesson in my moon boot , we learned how to use our brakes properly , No crashes

Day 2
I was more prepared today , I brought my bike and helmet , And of course I didn’t bring my moon boot with me so I could ride my bike better. Today we did hand signals of signs to stop , pass me and also we did how to keep yourself safe on the road.
I SURVIVED!

The Digital World

Today we are learning to explore Digital Technology and explain what it means. We brainstorm with the class all the examples of digital technology that they know about.

Next we are going to be thinking about some ways to keep safe in cyberspace. Brainstorm with the students about safety tips about using social networking sites. They can each create their own pamphlet Safety in Cyberspace.

Watch this space.
